Socio-cultural Implications of artificial Hormones

The environmental and communal implications of any sphere of influence or beloved topic are clearly shaped by societies' values and practices..  When patriotism overflows into the ethno-centric realm however, we can occasionally lose that relative perspective so needful in production decisions that will impact our following generations.  Sometimes it's that minute bird on our shoulder whispering in our ear that urges us to turn our head; to think twice about the direction we're heading.

In the Us we love our labels, especially when they reflect our varied states of dis-ease.  Medically coined, menopause refers to the time in a woman's life when she ceases to produce levels of hormones needful for child-birth.  With the Us holding the report for top rate of hysterectomies performed I thought, "there must be a logical reason, right?"  Of course, that's debatable.

So Why Not artificial Hormones?

Synthetics come with the price of un-wanted and un-necessary physiological damage.  Although they resemble hormones molecularly, the nature of their constituents is ordinarily not well tolerated by our systems.  Some will argue that the active constituents in hormone replacement, an equine source for example, intimately resemble human physiology; rendering them quite useful.  One skeptic of bio-identical hormone exchange went on to mention that the equine sources were "necessary" because they're neuro-protective as well.  While these factors are true of the active pharmaceutical agent, it is however un-true of the excipients contained within.  Excipients and binders are the compounds used to deliver treatment into the body so that they become beneficial in a pre-determined destination within the body.  Along the way, these excipients can leave residues or alter other chemical processes in the body disrupting homeostasis.

A modern study led by Dr. Hugh Taylor within the agency of Endocrinology and Infertility at Yale School of treatment showed that artificial structures altered the gene expression responsible for not only a developing fetus, but also affected long term genetic memory (imprinting) into adulthood!1

Hot Flash, What Hot Flash?

Some of you have heard that original Japanese women don't have a "word" for hot flash.  You might be surprised to hear that very few foreign cultures surely do!  Not only do these cultures not sense menopause as we do here in the states, but their incidences of osteoperosis are also incredibly lower compared to ours.  A phenomenon?  The sass is in lifestyle.  Relying on a wide variety of foods largely plant and fish based, diet is their key to coolness during life's (hormonal) transitions.

Animals Injected With Hormones

Think about a big bloated unhappy cow, overweight, under-exercised, and all caged up.  Nice visual?  When we eat the flesh and drink the milk from these animals, the influence is seen in girls heading into early puberty, difficult menstruation, endometriosis, preponderance of female obesity, and prolonged increased circulation of non-biologically beneficial hormones.

Plastics and Xeno-Estrogens

These estrogen-like compounds are recognized by and invted to dock at estrogen receptor sites throughout the body.  These freely circulating artificial compounds accumulate, yet lack any physiological viability.  As they accumulate, xeno-estrogens lead to the preponderance of tissue growth surrounding receptor sites.  This un-necessary tissue has an affinity for accumulating in the reproductive organs and connected structures (ovaries, uterus, breasts, fallopian tubes, cervix, etc) contributing to the risk of developing connected cancers.

What You Can Do

Educate yourself!  If you're reading this article, you're off to an awesome start!

Accurately correlate hormone levels with precision saliva testing to allow yourself a wide variety of possible treatment options.

Buy organic!  The price you shell out now at the grocery store will be money back in your pocket later.  consider shopping organic; an venture or insurance policy on your health.  Discuss your needs with the local grocer and urge their stocking of organic meat and dairy.  My patients have found that local grocers are inclined to pick up goods once they know you'll be a quarterly shopper.  Having problem looking a local grocer in your area to buy organic?  Specialty farms in your area may supply what you're looking for.

Visit http://www.ewg.org to find a farm near you.

Find safer plastics or plastic alternatives.  Store and heat your foods in glass based products to avoid additional leaching.  Plastic is very porous.  Microwaving foods in plastics changes the chemical structures that have nowhere else to go, but into your food.  Try stainless steel and hemp products.

Visit http://www.care2.com/greenliving/which-plastics-are-safe.html for a list of safer plastic choices.

Recapping, the Top reasons to fore-go artificial and consider alternatives are:

Synthetics:

Upset genetic expression in both fetal amelioration and adulthood

Potentially growth the risk of reproductive cancers such as ovarian, uterine, and breast

Decrease the immune response

Exacerbate pre-existing auto-immune and endocrine issues

Ethical issues regarding their yield and and connected affects upon the environment

In-activates salutary market of already present hormones
