A True Story
The first community of cavemen a few million years ago, invented the process of lobbying. This is what happened.

The Leader of the cavemen and his popular assistants, were approached by the man who supplied him with the customary wooden clubs imbedded with sharp stones. He explained that he feared that other wooden club, in effect of slightly great quality than his own was being made in the caves down the road, and he was afraid that this new club would be chosen by the Cavemen's Head instead of his own.

The Senator smiled knowingly and putting his index finger in his temple said:
"I know, I Know. We have my sharp brain to thank for it!."
Mickey sat down and placed the black leather briefcase on one side of the desk. He opened it and read:

"Senator, these are the entries for only this week: A new set of golf clubs, along with the new omni-directional putter. Six pair of Rossignol skies for you and your family and the vouchers for plane transportation to Zurich, a reservation for a Eurocar with driver and a two week stay at the Palace Hotel in St. Moritz. The monorail people have sent the laptop they promised. It is a new Toshiba that includes the latest communications software, movies, television, telephone, fax, copying attachment, alarm, world clock..."

"Can the thing be used for typing letters?"

"I don't know. But we can all the time return it and get a Smith Corona if you wish.."

"What else?"

"The Aerobics people have sent other of those walking machines. We already have three in the office plus the ones you have at home, Senator"

"Send them all back. Attach a polite note letting them know that I can only profit from Aerobics if I have a place to walk, not a walking machine, for Chrissakes! They know all about the ranch in Wyoming that my wife and I like so much. . ."

"We are getting new furniture in the office. The department Store lobby called. They have just received the French lamps and the Italian sofas. They'll be here Monday.."

"How about the media?"

"Nothing doing so far. They refuse to take the bait. Not even a ticket to a high school concert."
The senator looked at his solid gold Rolex, a small gift from a canned food processor in his state and frowned. "What does the President want with me today?" The appointment would keep him from seeing his tailor who -- thanks to the motorcycle relationship -- had imported several cuts of fine British and Italian woolens, alpaca mixes, gabardines and a choice piece of Vicuña that would be excellent for a top coat. He smiled at Mickey and asked him to continue.

"We have also received your lifetime passes to the Senators games, the Miami Dolphins, Notre Dame, the Orlando Bullets, Wimbledon, the Augusta Masters and the finals of the Girls National Soccer Championships in Akron, Ohio. But, wait, here comes the jackpot!"
The senator relished Mickey's enthusiasm and cheerfulness. Besides, he was a workaholic and did practically everything around the office. When it was time to send those constituent letters, Mickey was the first to start the folding, labeling and the stuffing and licking of the envelopes. And he did not have to keep him on the payroll. Math is a basic skill required for college and to attract employers. My friend Don is an join together Professor of Electrical Engineering at Seattle Pacific University. He shares some great insights about the significance of teaching math in high school.

"Math requirements vary by school. You don't necessarily have to have extra math to get into a college, but you do need it to be well-educated. Upper level math can train your mind. Math is a good discipline, and teaches qoute solving in a variety of subjects, beyond math."

Math is an excellent way to learn real-life skills critical to getting a good job. Employers want problem-solving skills, determination,persistence, and hard work. They want job-seekers who will strive until they solve a qoute and get the job done. They want workers who know what it's like to work hard. These soft skills aren't taught by teachers, by they can be learned straight through pursuing math and retention children challenged with their subjects.

"Societal expectations have a lot to do with math achievement. I met a Japanese student going into business, and he really apologized for Only having two years of calculus. In the Us, our math expectations are so much lower than the rest of the world. We task those low expectations onto kids even from the grade school level; telling them that math is so hard and it's no fun. That promotes a negative view of math. It is a cultural issue that trains children to think 'I can't do this.' The only real solution is a cultural shift in the perception of math."

Colleges are seeing for students that have the best math preparation potential for that student. It doesn't mean you have to teach calculus to every child, but it does mean they want you to work conscientiously on math every year. Don't let your own weaknesses in math cause dissatisfaction in your children. Not all of us are gourmand cooks, but we can still hand our child a cookbook. Treat math in a matter-of-fact way, without conveying your own anxiety. You can account for that your child needs to learn how to learn math on their own, with great video tutorials, without telling them it's your anxiety that gets in the way of teaching it yourself.

"Math is basic to science and engineering. Right now many of our country's science and engineering professionals are nearing retirement, yet there are few up-and-coming students able to take those jobs. There are too few citizen with the math skills critical to take those jobs. Foreign technical workers are taking those technical jobs, because there are simply too few Us students who can do the work. For example, right now there is a deficit of aerospace engineers, and they can't find citizen to fill those jobs for defense contracts."

Because there is a deficit of engineers, and basic math skills may be lacking in social school graduates, homeschoolers have the advantage. We can supply the math students need to succeed. Our children can earn grants and scholarships for college based on their math preparation.

"Math is basic for all students going into engineering sciences. I have had many students over the years who want to go into engineering but stumble on the math. They may have made good engineers, but they couldn't take the math. Because this is such a large national problem, the government is working on solutions. Grant money from Us government and corporations is promoting science and math curriculum and providing hands-on curriculum for math and science. There needs to be a revolution on how science is taught in grade school and middle school. Portray math as fun and exciting! It can be done!"
